To build state of the art production capacitiesd & achievea pre-eminent global standing by 2020 in mfg. & export of all types of texttiles. The Indian raw silk demand is expected to grow at the rate of 5-7% per annum. The Domesstic consumption of raw silk is also expected to grow at the same rate. The gap between demand & supply is likely to remain in the medium term horizon. In compliance with the National Fiber Policy. Department of Sericulture, Govt. of Karnataka strives to maintain a balance between the interests of all stakeholders in the value chain. Including farmers, reelers, weaverds & value added designers.
1. The main objectives are horizontal & vertical expansion of the Mulberry area and increase the production cum productivity & reduce the production cost.
2. This will be acheived through encouraging contact / corporate farming, Market reforms emphasizing extension activities in new areas in addition to the on going programmes.
3. Sericulture is an ideal crop. To improve North Karnataka which has congential soil, climate, man power & the opportunity for development of socioeconomic conditions. In this region, through cluster model, Sericulture development work will be taken up. To improve the quality of raw silk, bivoltine hybrid cocoon production will be enhanced.
4. With all these steps, the department has set an aim to increase the raw silk production to 10300MT during 2014-15.
5. Impetus will also be given for diversification of sericulture related activities for generation of additional income.
6. To Promote exports of all types of silk goods to increase India's share of world exports in Silk sector.
7. To Promote technological up-gradation for all types of silk textiles including technical textiles.
8. To Promote planned & harmonious growth of silk industry by enhancing the producion of all varities of silk fibres.
