What We Do

The State of Chhattisgarh is one of the major traditional Tasar producing states and is famous for different types of Tasar fabrics produced in Champa and Raigarh areas with nearly 7000 Hand Looms located in these and surrounding rural areas. The State has large potential for the development of all the 4 types of silks in the form of large rural population an estimated nearly 13% geographical area is barren land, 45% of the land under forest cover having Tasar food plants like Saja, Senha etc. besides Kahwa block plantations developed by the Sericulture wing of the Rural Industries Department. With a production of nearly 140 mt of Tasar silk, the State ranks 2nd next to Jharkhnd. More than 40mt of Tasar silk waste is also produced in the State which largely goes out side the state for conversion into spun yarn. Eri culture besides earnings through production of cocoons provides additional income to the farmers by sale of Castor Oil seed and Tapioca tuber. With assured marketing facility, the area under cultivation of Castor and Tapioca would increase which in turn promote development of industries associated with Castor Oil Seed and Tapioca tuber. Encourage rural farmers to produce Eri cocoons, consume pupae and pre-pupae to combat malnutrition, procure Eri cocoons, Tasar silk waste, Tasar pierced, flimsy etc. cocoons from the door step of the producers at remunerative prices, convert the state produce into value added products of exportable quality and extend a helping hand to the efforts of the Government of Chhattisgarh in mitigating poverty. The Eri cocoons produced by the farmers across the State would be converted into fine spun yarn of different counts. The locally available tasar waste, hither to being processed out side the state, would also hence forth be converted into spun yarn. The Tasar reeled yarn produced by the local Women Groups would be utilized for production of fabrics along with the spun yarn produced in the spun silk mill. Thus the Mill, first of its kind in the state, provide employment opportunities directly and indirectly to a large number of rural poor, specially women and also provides additional income to the farmers cultivating Castor and Tapioca.
